Gold and White Lace, Feather hem wedding dress

When Caroline first got in touch she had tried on lots of traditional style wedding dresses, discovering more about what she didn’t want, rather than what she did want!
Caroline has impeccable fashion taste, and while the dress needed to retail the sense of occasion, it needed to be all-round more considered and a bit edgier that the more usual wedding dresses.
The key seemed to be bold and perhaps unexpected details, but not to go too OTT with them.
The silhouette for Caroline’s dress was to be a strapless, long-line figure-skimming dress with a fluted skirt and daring thigh-slit in a golden silk crepe.
Two types of Guipure lace, chosen for their slightly geometric and non-floral shapes, were embroidered to the upper part of the dress, cutting out individual shapes from the lace fabric and placing it to sculpt and enhance the figure. Some of the lace being cut away to bring out the contrast between the gold silk and ivory lace.
A light scattering of white alabaster and yellow-gold coloured stones and Swarovski, as well as french and bullion knots where stitched to blend the lace to the plainer areas of the silk crepe.
We looked at different options to bring in a texture to the hem from tulle to ruffles, and eventually decided upon Ostrich feathers which were hand dyed in varying shades of golden yellow to provide a depth of colour, and individually blow-dried, curled and shaped before being placed on the hem, using fuller feathers at the bottom, and lighter, more delicate feathers to blend between the silk crepe and denser feather areas.

Caroline and Ben married in a beautiful spot in Italy, with an abundance of beautiful doorways and windows just ripe for beautiful portrait opportnities.
